World Heritage sites are either created by nature or in the process of human history. They are irreplaceable treasures that have survived from the distant past into the present day. They represent precious human heritage that should be shared with all the peoples of the world and preserved for future generations. As of August 2021, there were 1,154 sites inscribed on the World Heritage List. Of those, there were 897 cultural, 218 natural, and 39 mixed heritage sites.
