World Heritage sites are either created by nature or in the process of human history. They are irreplaceable treasures that have survived from the distant past into the present day. They represent precious human heritage that should be shared with all the peoples of the world and preserved for future generations.
As of August 2017, there were 1,073 sites inscribed on the World Heritage List. Of those, there were 832 cultural, 206 natural, and 35 mixed heritage sites.
